about ARBH
Hello! I am a New England artist who is inspired by the energy of nature. I use vibrant colors to celebrate the feeling and energy of spending time outdoors.
My path through life has been varied and meandering. I have studied ecology, dipped my toe in marketing, and rekindled my love of education as a teacher. One thing that has stayed consistent in my life is my love of creating art. As a kid I would sit in my dad's wood shop using his airplane model paints and scrap wood from whatever project he was working on at the time to create little plaque paintings that would find their way from wall to wall. I was often praised and celebrated by my school, friends and family as a "talented artist."
My relationship with art became more private as I got older and more self conscious . In middle school I became critical of my process and wouldn't let anyone see my art until it was completed. As a young adult, I often created then threw away art that "wasn't good enough;" a habit I still at times have to stop myself from practicing. In fact, much of the art you will see on my page will be pieces that my inner critic is embarrassed by.
Through my experience of being an educator and now a mother, I have felt the heart of that sour inner critic begin to soften as I start to see myself through my own maternal lense. What I have hoped for my students and child, I also hope for myself-- to create without judgement, enjoy the process, and be brave enough to put my beautiful, flawed self out into the world.
Diving into the world of professional creating, I've enjoyed painting originals as well as commissions, and jump at any opportunity for freelance digital illustrations. Please feel free to reach out with any ideas, questions, or collaboration inquiries!
Thanks for visiting,
Amy
